The weekend draws near. Watch a movie.
Not every night of the week brings box office results, and this Thursday – 27 September – is a bit of a ‘needle in a haystack’ situation.
Yep, there’s not a huge amount to choose from but rest assured, we’ve trawled through the listings to return no less than five noteworthy films for your viewing pleasure…
All the President’s Men – TCM – 6.15pm
Journalism, eh?
Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford aim to take down US President Richard Nixon in this critically-acclaimed political thriller.
Star Trek Into Darkness – Film 4 – 9pm
The common consensus is that Star Trek Into Darkness is a bit of a convoluted mess, but that’s mostly down to the nonsensical marketing campaign that strained to conceal the identity of Benedict Cumberbatch’s villain.
Everyone knew he was playing Khan, and it really didn’t matter either way, but to double down and try and trick the fans for the sake of a reveal that drops like a lead balloon halfway through really hurt the movie.
Which is a shame, as STID is a perfectly good space romp, with Cumberbatch providing great value as he plays against type as a ruthless antagonist.
Rocky IV – ITV 4 – 9pm
Yeah, they’ve put Rocky IV on again.
The fourth outing for the Italian Stallion is honestly more music video than movie, and it’s good knowing fun for it.
Plus, he has access to a robot in the late 1980s for some reason and it’s not even a major part of the plot.

The Transporter – Film 4 – 11.35pm
Jason Statham in an intense and goofy Euro-thriller that established both his action credentials and quick wit.
Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans – Film 4 – 1.20am
How to even begin to summarise this one?
Nicholas Cage goes full Nicholas Cage under the direction of notorious weirdo Werner Herzog as a corrupt and highly questionable lawman who is fond of drugs and terrible behaviour.
There’s also a bit where you get a POV shot from the perspective of an alligator, and if that’s not enough of a sell, I don’t know what else to tell you.
