The Shape of Water – Film4 – 11.15pm

Last but not least, our pick for tonight is set in ’60s America and follows a mute cleaner named Elisa (Sally Hawkins) at a high-security government laboratory who falls in love with a captured humanoid amphibian creature (Doug Jones).

With the help of her friends (Octavia Spencer and Richard Jenkins), Elisa plans to help the creature escape from death at the hands of an evil colonel (Michael Shannon).

Co-written and directed by Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth), The Shape of Water’s emotional and heartfelt story blends fairy-tale-like elements with timely social commentary.

It’s also stunning to look at and features incredible performances by its whole cast, meaning it’s no surprise it took home four Oscars in 2018, including Best Picture.
