A fantastic courtroom thriller is among the movies on TV tonight

Rory Cashin

Some great movies to choose from this evening!

Your Wednesday night movie options are as follows: get in mood for spooky season with one of the 15 best scary movies available on Netflix, or check out one of the FIFTY TWO big movie additions to Prime Video this week, or enjoy one of the flicks on TV this evening…

The Ipcress Files – Virgin Media Four – 9pm
Michael Caine headlines this fantastic spy thriller about an agent sent to find a kidnapped scientist.

Unstoppable – ITV4 – 9pm
Based on the surprisingly true story of a runaway train, and the two train workers (here played by Denzel Washington and Chris Pine) who take it upon themselves to save the day.

A Time To Kill – FilmFour – 9pm

Our main pick for tonight is A Time To Kill, a tremendous courtroom thriller, and exactly the kind of movie that would be turned into a ten-episode series on Netflix now instead. Matthew McConaughey, Sandra Bullock, Samuel L. Jackson, Kevin Spacey, Donald Sutherland, Kiefer Sutherland and Ashley Judd star in the fantastically acted-drama revolving around a man put on trial for murdering his young daughter’s rapists. If you miss it on TV tonight, A Time To Kill is also available to stream on Disney+, Netflix and Prime Video in Ireland and the UK.

End of Watch – BBC Three – 10.30pm
Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena co-star in this gritty cop thriller centred around two members of the LAPD who find themselves being targeted by a dangerous gang.

The Way of the Dragon – Sky Max – 10.45pm
Bruce Lee fights Chuck Norris in this iconic kung fu action flick.

Alien – BBC One – 11.40pm
One of the best horror movies AND one of the best sci-fi movies of all time.

Sleepless – FilmFour – 12am
There is a pretty impressive cast – Jamie Foxx, Michelle Monaghan, David Harbour, Gabrielle Union, Dermot Mulroney – in this sub-par action revenge thriller.

The Score – AMC – 1.45am
Robert De Niro, Edward Norton and Marlon Brando star in this very entertaining heist movie.

American Assassin – FilmFour – 1.50am
When his girlfriend is killed in a terrorist attack, a young man (Dylan O’Brien) tries to get recruited by the CIA to help put an end to terrorism forever. 34% on Rotten Tomatoes feels too generous, even with the presence of the great Michael Keaton.
