A nail-biting true story is among the movies on TV tonight

Rory Cashin

Wake up babe, new movie menu has just dropped!

We’re just one day away from the first weekend of November, and the first weekend since that Bank Holiday, and I think I can speak for everyone when I say we all deserve these incoming two days off. But before then, here are some of films on your telly to watch and enjoy (or not watch and smartly avoid)…

Apollo 13 – ITV4 – 8pm

Our main pick tonight is Apollo 13, detailing the true-life rescue mission that involved getting three astronauts (played by Tom Hanks, Bill Paxton and Kevin Bacon) back to Earth when their vessel becomes unusable while on its way to the Moon. If you miss it tonight, Apollo 13 is also available to rent on Google Play and Rakuten TV.

The Possession – Sky Sci-Fi – 9pm
When a young girl comes into the possession (see what we did there?) of a weird jewellery box, her parents begin to suspect she may be getting tormented by a paranormal entity. Good for some post-Halloween jump scares.

Gemini Man – FilmFour – 9pm
A great director (Ang Lee) and a great star (Will Smith) paired with a great concept (an aging hitman becomes the target of his younger, cloned self) can’t save this from being a somewhat boring action thriller.

All Is True – BBC Four – 9pm
Kenneth Branagh directs and stars in this decent historical drama, with William Shakespeare attempting to reunite with his wife (Judi Dench) and daughters.

The 6th Day – Legend – 9pm
The first of two bad Arnie movies tonight, and the second bad action movie tonight about clones.

Collateral Damage – ITV4 – 10.50pm
The second of the Bad Arnie double-bill tonight sees him trying to get revenge on the terrorist cell who killed his family during a bombing on American soil.

Macbeth – BBC Four – 11.05pm
The 1948 version, directed by and starring Orson Welles. Its quite good.

Rocketman – FilmFour – 11.15pm
Taron Egerton is fantastic in this musical biopic of the life and career of Elton John. It is much, MUCH better than Bohemian Rhapsody.
