Your weekend starts here!

Between the 12 new movies added to Netflix and the 23 new movies added to Prime Video this week, any film lovers are absolutely spoiled this weekend. But if none of those are suitable, here are all of the movies on your telly to choose from this Friday night…

The Longest Yard – Virgin Media One – 9pm
Adam Sandler stars as a famous American footballer who is put in prison, where the warden is a fan and wants him to create a team made up of his fellow inmates.

Alien: Covenant – E4 – 9pm
In the hunt for a new planet to inhabit, a group of space travellers happen across what may be the homeworld to the vicious xenomorph creature. Michael Fassbender plays two very different androids, which makes for one very memorable scene between them.

Gangs of New York – FilmFour – 9pm
Seeing as how Scorsese and DiCaprio have a new film in cinemas today, why not go back and check out their first collaboration, which also features a phenomenal performance from Daniel Day Lewis.

The Beach – BBC Three – 9pm

Our main pick for tonight is The Beach, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, in his first big movie post-Titanic. Directed by Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, 28 Day Later), it tells the story of an American tourist who happens across an absolute paradise… before being exposed to extreme measures performed by the residents of that paradise to maintain it. If you miss it on TV tonight, The Beach is also available to watch on Disney+ in Ireland and the UK.

Sea Fever – RTÉ2 – 10.30pm
A horror set off the coast of Ireland, where a group of fisherman on a trawler discover a new species in the Atlantic Ocean might have it in for mankind.

Dangerous Minds – MTV – 11pm
Probably still most remembered for that amazing Coolio song ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’.

The Shining – BBC One – 11.05pm
Widely considered to be one of the best horror movies of all time.

The Inbetweeners Movie – Channel 4 – 11.05pm
If you liked the show, you’ll like the movie. If you didn’t, you won’t.

Jackass Presents Bad Grandpa – Comedy Central – 11.10pm
All of the stunts of a Jackass movie, but with a bit of a story attached, about an old man and his criminal grandson going on a roadtrip.

The Vow – RTÉ One – 12.10am
Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams star in this rom-dram about a woman who wakes up from a coma and no longer recognises her husband, who must try to win her over all over again.

Chopper – FilmFour – 12.20am
Eric Bana is tremendous in this darkly comic crime biopic about an infamous Australian criminal.

Videodrome – Legend – 2.45am
A fantastically creepy sci-fi horror about a TV worker who discovers a channel that is subliminally influencing its viewers.
