Your Monday evening movie menu has arrived!
Loads and LOADS of decent movie picks to choose from this evening, starting with…
The Hunger Games – Sky Showcase – 8pm
Ahead of the prequel arriving in cinemas this November, now is a good time to go back and check out our introduction to Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and the concept of the Hunger Games.
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom – FilmFour – 9pm
The sequel which is secretly a prequel, taking Indy to Asia to hunt down some sacred stones. A lot scarier than its given credit for.
Sinister 2 – Sky Sci-Fi – 9pm
As the original is scientifically considered to be the scariest movie ever made, this sequel proves to be massively disappointing in that department.
In The Valley of Violence – Legend – 9pm
Ethan Hawke, John Travolta and Karen Gillan star in this decent, violent western.
Fury – TG4 – 9.30pm
Our main pick for tonight is Fury, a tense WWII thriller set in and around the confines of a tank and its soldiers, played by Brad Pitt, Shia LeBeouf, Jon Bernthal, Logan Lerman, Michael Pena and Scott Eastwood. Written and directed by David Ayer (Training Day, Suicide Squad), it details a mission that practically guarantees death for the entire squadron, but which could also help change the course of the war. If you miss it tonight, Fury is also available to watch on Netflix or with a NOW Cinema Membership.
Superbad – BBC Three – 10pm
Jonah Hill, Michael Cera and Christopher Mintz-Plasse star in this classic coming-of-age teen comedy.
Taken 2 – ITV4 – 10pm
The one where Liam Neeson is taken and needs his daughter to save him. An interesting twist, but the film itself isn’t very good.
Summer of Soul – Channel 4 – 10pm
A fantastic documentary on the 1969 Harlem Culture Festival, which celebrated Black history, culture, music, and fashion.
Maggie – AMC – 10.30pm
Arnie stars in this post-apocalyptic horror, as the father to a teenage girl who begins to turn into a zombie. A weird choice for Arnie, to be sure, but it is actually pretty good.
Mr. Jones – BBC Two – 11.15pm
The true story of a Welsh journalist (played by James Norton) who risks his life to expose the mass famine in 1930s Russia.
Coming To America – FilmFour – 11.20pm
Eddie Murphy’s legendary comedy about a rich African prince travelling to New York to find his future queen.
Another Round – Channel 4 – 1.15am
Considered by many critics to be one of the best movies of the decade. Worth staying up/setting the recorder for.
Hitman – FilmFour – 1.40am
Hollywood has twice tried to adapt this very fun video game into a good movie. Twice they have failed.
