An overlooked Cillian Murphy drama is among the movies on TV tonight

As another option, The Snapper is also on the telly tonight.

The weekend is upon you now, and you’ve got some great viewing choices to pick from, especially if you’re a horror fan. Disney Plus has added a very, very, very scary movie, while an excellently reviewed new Netflix horror series has also just dropped. But none of those work for you, here are tonight’s movies on TV…

Tears of the Sun – Virgin Media One – 9pm
Bruce Willis teamed up with the director of Training Day for this action thriller around a team of US Navy Seals. It isn’t very good.

Midnight Run – Legend – 9pm
Robert De Niro is very funny as a bounty hunter forced to go a long road trip with the criminal he’s been charged with bringing to justice.

Anna – FilmFour – 9pm
For some reason, this movie is on FilmFour once every two weeks or so. They need to swap it out of its rotation, as there are much better assassin thrillers than this one.

The Dry – Sky Showcase – 9pm
When a man (Eric Bana) returns to his hometown for a funeral, his arrival re-opens the investigation into the murder of a local teenage girl. A very good crime drama.

Get Out – BBC Three – 9.30pm
Jordan Peele’s modern classic horror about a young black man (Daniel Kaluuya) and his interactions with the friends and family of his new white girlfriend.

Death Wish (2018) – ITV4 – 10pm
Bruce Willis again, this time in the Eli Roth-directed remake of the Charles Bronsan cult classic. Once again, unfortunately, it isn’t very good.

Venom – E4 – 10pm
Tom Hardy is having a ball as the murderous anti-hero.

Knight and Day – Virgin Media Four – 10.20pm
A woman (Cameron Diaz) gets caught up in the kerfuffle around a super spy (Tom Cruise) as he goes on the run from his handlers. A mediocre action comedy romance.

The Snapper – RTÉ2 – 10.25pm
The Snapper is on the telly tonight. That is all you need to know.

Game of Death II – Sky Max – 11pm
It has no connection to the first GoD, and most of the Bruce Lee’s scenes are actually cut from his older movies. Not great, tbh.

Jackass 3.5 – Comedy Central – 11pm
Arguably the best of the Jackass movies.

Women In Gold – BBC Two – 11.05pm
An elderly Jewish woman (Helen Mirren) enlists the help of a young lawyer (Ryan Reynolds) to get back the valuable family heirlooms she lost while fleeing her home during WWII.

Candyman (2021) – BBC Three – 11.10pm
The recent rebootquel is worth a watch, while never really becoming all that scary.

The Girl in the Spider’s Web – FilmFour – 11.20pm
The Crown’s Claire Foy plays the world class hacker in this not-great serial killer thriller.

Dracula (1958) – Legend – 11.30pm
Christopher Lee stars as the infamous vampire in this classic horror.

The Delinquent Season – RTÉ One – 12.10am

Our pick of the flicks tonight is The Delinquent Season. The story revolves around two couples, Cillian Murphy and Eva Birthistle, and Andrew Scott and Catherine Walker, who begin to suffer from strong difficulties within their relationships, especially when the lines start to blur between the two couples. Coming from the co-writer of Intermission and Normal People, it is a rare kind of Irish drama, filled with some excellent performances. If you miss it tonight, The Delinquent Season is also available to buy on Volta and Apple TV.
