An incredible real-life drama is among the movies on TV tonight

Rory Cashin

Our main pick for the night comes from the director of Top Gun Maverick.

Monday is back upon us, let us ease ourselves into the new week with some decent movies, starting with…

Fast Girls – BBC Three – 9pm

Lily James, Lashanna Lynch and Noel Clarke star in this well-reviewed drama about a rivalry between two of the fastest female racers in the UK.

The Da Vinci Code – Sky Showcase – 9pm

The book was incredibly popular (but also incredibly dumb). The movie, starring Tom Hanks and Audrey Tautou, was a fair adaptation.

Rambo III – ITV4 – 9pm

In 1988, this was the most expensive movie ever made, with a now laughable budget of $63 million. It also sorta implies that Rambo helped arm the Taliban. So… there’s that.

Only The Brave

James Badge Dale, Miles Teller and Taylor Kitsch star in Only The Brave

Jumanji: The Next Level – FilmFour – 9pm

The blockbuster sequel to the blockbuster reboot of the Robin Williams original. Mildly entertaining.

Only The Brave – TG4 – 9.30pm

Our main pick for the night is Only The Brave, a real-life disaster drama from the director of Top Gun: Maverick. An incredibly stacked cast including Josh Brolin, Jeff Bridges, Miles Teller, Taylor Kitsch, Ben Hardy, Andie MacDowell, and Jennifer Connelly star in the story about a crew of elite firefighters who fought one of the most infamous wildfires in American history. A box office bomb (the $38 million production made just $26 million at the worldwide box office), the movie scored 87% with critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and is absolutely worth checking out.

Only The Brave is also available to rent on Rakuten TV, Apple TV and Sky Store.

Crank – ITV4 – 11.10pm

Jason Statham headlines this bonkers action thriller about an assassin who has been poisoned and must go to some extreme lengths to keep his heart pumping.

The Piano – BBC Two – 11.15pm

This Oscar-winning drama features some great performances from Holly Hunter, Anna Paquin, Sam Neill and Harvey Keitel.

Kes – FilmFour – 11.20pm

Ken Loach’s infamous drama about the friendship between a young boy and his pet falcon scored 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Bread and Roses – FilmFour – 1.35am

The second part of tonight’s Ken Loach double-bill sees two sisters as cleaners in a Los Angeles high rise fight for their rights to unionise.
