One of cinema’s greatest villains is among the movies on TV tonight

Your Saturday evening movies menu has arrived!

In between handfuls of broken Easter Eggs and hot cross buns, here are the movies that should have you reaching for the remote control to check out this evening…

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery – Comedy Central – 8pm

The first of Mike Myers’ trilogy of Bond lampooning movies. Still pretty funny.

Jumanji: The Next Level – Channel 4 – 8.30pm

Kevin Hart, The Rock, Karen Gillan and Jack Black return for this mega-budget action-adventure sequel.

Clear and Present Danger – FilmFour – 9pm

Harrison Ford’s second outing as Jack Ryan sees him uncovering a covert war against drug cartels in Colombia. A very good political action thriller.

The Snapper – RTE One – 9.15pm

I haven’t cried since I was a kid.” / “You cried during the World Cup.” / “Sober, Sharon! Sober!”

About Schmidt – TG4 – 9.30pm

Jack Nicholson and Kathy Bates were both nominated for their roles in this comedy-drama that is well worth checking out.

Hellboy – MTV – 10pm

This eye-popping comic book movie sees a demon (Ron Perlman) trying to fight for the side of the good guys.

Unstoppable – ITV4 – 10pm

Based on a true story, Denzel Washington and Chris Pine star as two train operators who may be the only ones able to stop an unmanned, out-of-control train from crashing.

American Pie: Uncut – Comedy Central – 10pm

These haven’t aged well, have they? Well, here is the first one, but with more of it. Hooray?

Mile 22 – RTE 2 – 10pm

Mark Wahlberg headlines this dull action thriller about a CIA agent assigned with getting a top priority asset to safety.

Commando – Channel 4 – 10.50pm

Arnie’s most fun movie? Discuss.

American Animals – RTE One – 11.40pm

Barry Keoghan teams up with the director of the most jaw-dropping documentary of the last decade for this heist movie based on a true story. We chatted to Keoghan and the director about the movie right here:

Candyman – FilmFour – 11.45pm

The original and best version of this urban legend horror, in which the bee-covered killer hunts any victim dumb enough to say his name five times into a mirror.

Sexy Beast – Channel 4 – 12.35am

Our pick for the night sees the great Ben Kingsley let off-the-leash as one of cinema’s all-time great villains. He plays the ex-boss of a retired career criminal (Ray Winstone) who threatens and abuses him into pulling off “one last job”. But, of course, things never go that way when it comes to one last job.

Directed by brilliant visualist Jonathan Glazer (Under The Skin, Birth), the movie did see Kingsley nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar, which he absolutely should have won over … (checks notes) … Jim Broadbent in Iris? Good lord.

Don’t Breathe – FilmFour – 1.50am

An incredibly tense thriller, with three burglars realising that they couldn’t have picked a worse house to break into if they’d tried.

The Girl With The Bracelet – BBC Two – 2am

This brilliant court drama, based on a true story, tells the gripping story of a teenage girl who stands trial for the murder of her best friend.
