Very decent night for sitting in.
On top of our picks for movies on TV, there are also two full couches of great guests on The Late Late Show and The Graham Norton Show to enjoy too.
But if you’re in more of a movie mood, we’ve definitely got you covered tonight.
FRIDAY 31 MAY
Casino – Dave – 9pm
The first of the two DeNiro and Pesci gangster epic movies on tonight, this one doesn’t have Ray Liotta, but it does have Sharon Stone, and it opens with a slow motion exploding car, so that’s pretty cool.
Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol – E4 – 9pm
The fourth one. The one where Tom Cruise climbs on the outside of the world’s tallest building. Maybe features the single best prolonged action scene in the entire franchise to date, but also the worst villain.
So… swings and roundabouts.
Goodfellas – ITV4 – 10pm
And the OTHER DeNiro/Pesci gangster epic. Probably more seen and more quotable, but sure listen, it is rightly considered a classic for a reason.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith – W – 10pm
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are two secret assassins who are assigned to kill each other, but they both don’t know the other is an assassin. Oh, and they’re married to each other. A fun, energetic, and obviously-great-to-look-at comedy action thriller.
The Boxer – RTE Two – 10.15pm
Daniel Day-Lewis reunites with his In The Name Of The Father director Jim Sheridan for this powerful drama about a boxer who is imprisoned for 14 years for his dealings with the IRA, and upon release tries to get his life back on track.
Green Room – FilmFour – 12.05am
One of the most insanely dark and tense thrillers of recent years, we find ourselves trapped in the backroom of a Neo Nazi bar with Anton Yelchin and his punk band after they witness a murder, and local Nazi chapter leader (an absolutely TERRIFYING Patrick Stewart) wants them dead at any cost.
