Your Thursday evening movie menu has arrived!
Netflix has just added one of the very best reviewed of the shows of 2023 so far, but if that isn’t for you, here are the movies on TV tonight:
The Magnificent Seven – BBC Four – 8pm
The classic western with Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn, Brad Dexter, James Coburn, and Horst Buchholz.
Waves – BBC Three – 9pm
This powerful drama tells the story of an African American family and the complicated relationships between them all following a tragic loss. Sterling K. Brown headlines the incredible cast, and Waves is scored by a beautiful, haunting score by Trent Rezor and Atticus Ross.
Hot Fuzz – ITV4 – 9pm
The very funny action comedy with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as two mismatched cops dropped into a sleepy village which might be harbouring some very dark secrets.
Angel Has Fallen – FilmFour – 9pm
The third in the Has Fallen series is basically The Fugitive.
The Exorcist: The Version You’ve Never Seen – TCM – 9pm
You probably have seen this version, to be fair.
White House Down – RTÉ2 – 10pm
What if Die Hard was in the White House? Channing Tatum and President Jamix Foxx will tell you.
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut – Comedy Central – 10pm
If you love the show, you’ll love the movie. If you don’t… well…
The French Connection – BBC Four – 10.05pm
Gene Hackman headlines one of the best thrillers of all time, complete with a jaw-droppingly brilliant car chase.
The First Purge – FilmFour – 11.20pm
The prequel horror which shows how the 12-hours crime-a-thon all began. It is … okay.
Get Carter – 11.25pm
Michael Caine stars in this classic crime thriller, as a very dangerous man who sets about getting revenge on the men he believes were responsible for his brother’s murder.
Passenger 57 – TCM – 11.45pm
Wesley Snipes in a not-great action thriller. But it does contain the “Always bet on black!” line of dialogue, which is timeless.
Walk Like A Panther – Channel 4 – 1.50am
A comedy about a group of retired wrestlers who decide to put the lycra on one last time to save their local pub. It has 8% on Rotten Tomatoes.
