A brilliant murder mystery is among the movies on TV tonight

Rory Cashin

Kick off your long weekend in the best way possible: with a movie!

If you’re on the hunt for a great movie to kick off your bank holiday weekend, we recommend this great new horror that has just been added to Netflix. And then there are the movies for you to choose from this evening…

A Fistful of Dollars – TG4 – 9pm
The classic Clint Eastwood western.

Blinded By The Light – BBC Three – 9pm
A fantastic comedy drama about a teenager who finds himself drawn to the music of Bruce Springsteen.

Independence Day: Resurgence – FilmFour – 9pm
The not-as-good sequel to the alien invasion epic.

The English Patient – RTE2 – 10pm
The Oscar-magnet romantic drama about a plane crash survivor (Ralph Fiennes) and the nurse (Juliette Binoche) attempting to assist in his healing process.

Scary Stories To Tell in the Dark – BBC Three – 10.50pm
A small town is plunged into chaos when a group of friends discover a story book about a mysterious girl who seems to be predicting the future.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer – MTV – 11pm
The movie that the eventual TV show was based on. Not as good as that show, btw.

Apocalypse Now: Final Cut – BBC Two – 11.05pm
Adds in some longer and previously unseen from the original cut of the Vietnam War epic.

The Inbetweeners 2 – Channel 4 – 11.05pm
The gang heads to Australia. “Hilarity” “ensues”.

Wind River – FilmFour – 11.20pm

Our big pick for tonight is Wind River, a fantastic murder mystery crime thriller starring Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen. From the same folks behind Sicario and Hell Or High Water, this movie is set within the chilly surroundings of an Indian Reservation in Wyoming, where the discover of the frozen body of an 18-year-old female sets off a massive chain reaction within the local community. Wind River is not currently available on any streaming or PVOD platforms in Ireland and the UK, so if you want to check it out, we recommend setting this to record for this evening.

Beavis and Butthead Do America – Comedy Central – 11.30pm
A very funny animated feature as the BFFs head across the country.

City Slickers – RTE One – 12.10am
Billy Crystal and his mates head off on a cowboy adventure to disrupt their boring city life.

The Grudge – Channel 4 – 1am
Not the great 2002 original, or the pretty good 2004 remake, but the quite terrible 2020 re-remake. Avoid.

Raw Deal – FilmFour – 1.30am
Arnie tries his hand at crime action (as opposed to just regular action). It isn’t great.
