Neil Patrick Harris to star in Netflix adaptation of beloved children’s books series

This is an interesting casting choice.

Neil Patrick Harris has reportedly agreed to play villain Count Olaf in Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of the A Series of Unfortunate Events books.

Jim Carrey had previously played the baddie in the 2004 movie of the same name, and the casting of Harris suggests that the Netflix series will be similarly theatrical and over-the-top in nature.

The books, written by Daniel Handler under the pseudonym Lemony Snicket, were a sardonic take on the classic themes of children’s books found in the works of writers like Roald Dahl, and as such were very popular with children and adults alike.

It remains to be seen if the Netflix series will be as star-studded as the film, which also featured Meryl Streep, Dustin Hoffman, Billy Connolly, Emily Browning and Timothy Spall.
