On The Box: The very best picks from this week’s TV

There’s no reason to go outside.

It’s Monday which means that we all need a few welcome distractions over the coming few days. With this in mind, we’ve decided to pick the best TV, movie and sporting highlights from the week ahead on the main terrestrial channels.

Here’s what’s in store up to Friday.

Tuesday

TV show: Drive (UTV Ireland, 9pm) With Top Gear set to return to our screens shortly, UTV have launched their own brand new entertainment series which features the thrills and spills of motor racing as eight celebrities are pitted against each other in an adrenaline charged race with a difference.

Rapper Professor Green; TV personality Louis Walsh and comedian Jonny Vegas are on the billing.

Film: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (Film 4, 9pm) Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark become targets of the Capitol after their victory in the 74th Hunger Games sparks a rebellion in the Districts of Panem.

Sport: Barcelona v Atletico Madrid (TV3, 19:30) The first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie at the Camp Nou sees defending champions Barcelona take on their nearest challengers in La Liga, Atletico Madrid.

Wednesday

TV show: The Almost Impossible Gameshow (ITV2, 9pm) The Rubber Bandits provide commentary as 10 contestants attempt to complete a range of “nearly impossible” challenges.

Film: Payback (3e, 10pm) Porter (Mel Gibson) is shot by his wife and best friend and is left to die. When he survives he plots revenge.

Sport: PSG v Man City (RTE2, 19:30) Manuel Pellegrini’s side travel to take on the French champions in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.

Thursday

TV show: I Am Irish (RTE2, 21:30) Journalist Una Mullally tries to get to the heart of national identity, speaking to a wide cross-section of people aged between 15 and 34-years-old to find out what being Irish means to them.

Film: Senna (ITV4, 11PM) A superb documentary on Brazilian Formula One racing driver Ayrton Senna, who won the F1 world championship three times before his death at age 34.

Sport:  Liverpool travel to Borussia Dortmund but can Klopp come out on top against his former crop? (Setanta 1, 19:30)

Friday

TV show: The Graham Norton Show (BBC One, 22:35) His guests this week include Ricky Gervais, Eric Bana, Helen Mirren and Kevin Costner.

Film: Man on Fire (TV3, 9pm) In Mexico City, a former assassin swears vengeance on those who committed an unspeakable act against the family he was hired to protect.

Sport: The Masters gets underway this week with Rory McIlroy bidding to complete the career slam. (Setanta Ireland, 20:00)
