One of the most brutal deaths in Game of Thrones was supposed to be even more gruesome

How? We can’t even imagine…

Obviously, if you haven’t seen season 6, this will spoil it for you, you’ve been warned.

We’ve already seen that Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams were out and about in Belfast last night as an Irish comedian attempted to flirt with Turner with some poor results.

One person who worked closely alongside Turner in the Game of Thrones series was Iwan Rheon, who played Ramsay Bolton, the crazed and psychotic husband of Sansa Stark.

Ramsay came to a fitting and bloody end in the penultimate episode of the show when he was set upon by his own dogs, the dogs he’s used to kill and torture so many people throughout the series.

It was a stomach churning scene and about as gory an end as we can imagine, and we hate to admit it, but there was something immensely satisfying about his death.

But in an interview with Variety, Image Engine visual effects supervisor Mat Krantz revealed that Ramsay’s death was supposed to be far more gruesome than the final cut which made it to screen.

“They shot the scene with multiple takes,” Mat Krantz said.

“They did a pass of the dog on green screen, then Ramsay on green screen, and then we also had a background plate, which we put together.”

Artists had then created a CGI jaw for Ramsay which had been animated to show the flesh ripping between Ramsay’s skin and gums.

But even by Game of Thrones’ standards, the whole scene was considered to be a little too violent and it was toned back to the less spine-chilling, but still pretty dang gruesome, spectacle we all remember today.
