More than just a publicity stunt…
This year’s Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, February 28 – and many groups are feeling overlooked. Most importantly, people of colour have expressed their grief at being drastically underrepresented, using the #OscarsSoWhite hashtag.
However, there is another community within the film industry who feel like they don’t even have the chance to be rewarded for their hard work.
The stunt community is finally taking their dissatisfaction with the Academy Awards to the next level this year, and will protest outside the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Wednesday afternoon in Beverly Hills.
Mad Max: Fury Road is up for Best Picture as well as nine other Academy Awards this time around, but it is the dedications of stunt people who made the breakneck excitement of the Tom Hardy film possible.
This online petition asks people “If you have ever enjoyed a movie, held your breath during an impossible leap from a building, been thrilled at a high-speed chase, or clung to the edge of your seat when good and evil fought it out on the big screen, then please sign this petition.”
