It’s a little over a year ago at this stage, but few who witnessed last year’s Valentine’s Day special edition of the Late Late Show will have forgotten about it in a hurry.
With the audience deliberately made up of single people looking for love, it soon turned into a raucous, rowdy and thoroughly entertaining affair, with Ronan O’Gara’s unfortunate slip of the tongue when talking about his wife Jessica (for which he subsequently apologised) providing the standout moment.

To say it got quite a reaction would be an understatement and RTE even had to subsequently issue a statement to deny that the audience had been given extra alcohol on the night.
The show was not to everyone’s tastes and prompted some complaints from viewers afterwards, but it hasn’t deterred RTE from doing the exact same thing this year and, if it sounds like your kind of thing, you could be a part of it.
Those who want to be in the studio audience on the night have been invited to apply via a form on the RTE website, a form that explicitly states that only single people need apply.
There was an element of spontaneity to last year’s edition that is hard to replicate of course, but with hormones flying all the place and perhaps a few beverages on board, the ingredients are in place for a repeat of last year’s madness.
Brace yourself Ryan; you could be in for a tough night.
