Star Wars director Rian Johnson hints at the carnage to come in The Last Jedi

Just not Chewie. Anyone but Chewie.

Anyone who saw The Force Awakens will know all to well that the Star Wars franchise is not afraid to kill off fan favourites (Kylo Ren, you heartless bastard), and apparently it’s only going to get worse.

With The Force Awakens being extremely similar to A New Hope, a number of fans are expecting the upcoming Star Wars movie, The Last Jedi, to bear similarities to The Empire Strikes Back. To put that into words that someone who isn’t an absolute nerd will understand: The bad guys are gonna do some serious damage.

Speaking at a panel discussion based around The Last Jedi, director and writer Rian Johnson broke down where we are following the end of The Force Awakens: “Starkiller Base, big loss, but they did manage to take out the seat of the Republic and that’s thrown the galaxy into chaos.

“The First Order are jumping on that at the beginning of our movie, very aggressively, not sitting on their hands, they’re making some big moves at the start of our film.

“So things are going to get dire.”

Things don’t sound too good for our heroes. Watch the fantastic teaser trailer for The Last Jedi here:
