Petrol, meet fire.
The bottom line is that just like the UK electorate on the Brexit vote, the American people have spoken, and they’ve democratically opted for Donald Trump to be their President Elect. While Trump is gearing up to be the 45th President of the United States, there’s no denying that his campaign was riddled with racism, fear-mongering and misogynistic behaviour.
The rise of Trump’s nativist policies in the US is in keeping with a global trend that has seen France’s far-right National Front party leader Marine Le Pen coming to prominence and Nigel Farage’s UKIP party ushering the UK out of the EU. Some of the first people to congratulate Trump on his victory, for example, included; Geert Wilders, David Duke and Vladimir Putin.
In this cauldron of hate and xenophobia, certain politicians and columnists have been given an even bigger platform to express their views. JOE took the editorial decision to never mention one of these ‘personalities’, but The Late Late Show will have her on as one of their guests this Friday.
@rte @latelateshow why is the state broadcaster giving a platform to a poisonous demagogue? For "entertainment"? What value is there to it?
