There was a very mixed reaction to Carrick on Stag on RTÉ 2 last night

The response was interesting to say the least.

One of RTÉ’s most hyped offerings of the festive season, Carrick on Stag, documenting the antics that regularly take place on stag and hen parties in arguably the stag capital of Ireland, aired on RTÉ 2 last night.

It was filmed over, as the programme’s blurb described, “one hectic weekend,” following “three groups of hens and stags; from the Conor McGregor of the stripping world to catching cocks on a local farm to a Brazilian model who is happy to let it all hang out, we get down and dirty on this weekend to remember”.

The hook worked because #CarrickonStag was one of the top trending topics in Ireland on Wednesday night.

Despite giving plenty of warning about what might transpire during the programme, it would appear from the social media reaction that plenty of viewers were caught off guard, with one stripper in particular proving to be the focus of a lot of attention.

Others queried the need for a programme like it, more questioned the impact it might have on the town of Carrick-on-Shannon, while plenty enjoyed what was far from a run-of-the-mill Irish documentary.
