There’s a Father Ted World Cup and they need your votes for the all-time best episodes

Paul Moore

Go on, go on, go on and cast your vote.

Much like the mystery surrounding the true identity of Father Windy Shepherd Henderson – not the one from Tralee but the priest that was first on the scene when Malcom X was assassinated – there’s one question that all Father Ted fans can’t answer. What’s the best episode from Craggy Island?

To be honest, it’s almost impossible to answer but one of the most popular Twitter fan accounts for the show is looking for your help in solving an even bigger problem than that time The Beast stared roaming the moors.

Fr Dougal McGuire is one of the best parody accounts for all things Father Ted and they’ve decided to have a class little World Cup.

The rules are as follows. With 24 episodes of the show, excluding the Christmas special for the time being, you have to vote for your favourite episode in a knock-out style format. The winners then move into the next round where they go up against other quality episodes.

Match One: Can Father Stone prevail against The Pond of Terror? Get them fecking crucnhies out of the car!

Match Two: Henry Sellers may have made the BBC but is he prepared to go up against the people that traveled to Craggy Island from Gdansk to see the film?

Match Three: Dougal may be able to recite his Italian footballers while giving the last rites but we do who doesn’t love Tom’s excuse for robbing the post office?

Match Four: This is hard. Father Billy O’Dwyer (The Spinmaster) vs Father Noel Furlong and the caravan?

Match Five: Oasis or Blur? Then again, there’s a lot to be said for bishops that love sci-fi.

Match Six: My Lovely Horse or those Japanese hairy bastards aka rabbits. The choice is yours.

Match Seven: She’s been eating chocolate! Was that moment more iconic than The Lovely Girls competition? You decide.

Match Eight: I’ve had my fun and that’s all that matters, even when a plane that’s full of priests is about to crash. At least they have Mr Bean.

Match Nine: Which side of Father Ted’s personality do you prefer? The accidental racist or the man that rid Craggy Island of The Beast (and his four arses)

Match Ten: We’re sorry but there’s only one winner here. It’s just a shame that Pat Mustard had to yank himself off around the clock.

Match Eleven: Impossible to choose between The Annual All-Priests 5-a-side Over 75 Indoor Football Challenge Match and a good old fashioned kick up the arse. Give it a go.

Match Twelve: There’s one clear winner here. That final episode still makes us feel incredibly emotional. Get voting!
