The directing duo got everyone’s attention with their first feature film last year.
Since the landmark original was released in 1974, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise has been sequalised and remade into oblivion, with eight movies now part of the series, but none of them coming close to matching up to the original.
That could be about to change though, as Variety are reporting that two Irish film-making brothers – Ryan and Andy Tohill – have been signed up to direct the latest reboot attempt.
The new movie will be executive produced by Fede Alvarez – the director of Don’t Breathe, and the 2013 remake of Evil Dead – and he is apparently very excited by the Tohill’s take on the project, stating:
“The Tohill’s vision is exactly what the fans want. It’s violent, exciting and so depraved that it will stay with you forever.”
The Tohills are from Derriaghy in Antrim, and their first feature film was The Dig, which premiered at the 2018 Galway Film Fleadh, where it went on to win Best Irish Feature, before getting a full Irish release in April 2019.
JOE chatted to that movie’s star, Moe Dunford (Vikings, Patrick’s Day), when it was released last year, and you can check out our full chat with him about the movie below.
There is no set release date for the Texas Chainsaw Remake, but a good bet would be around Halloween 2021.
