Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake might not make for the likeliest of co-stars, but their collaboration on the new gambling flick, Runner, Runner, looks worth a look.
Timberlake’s acting chops may have been questioned in the past but he’s certainly in some esteemed company here in a film directed by Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer), produced by Leonardo DiCaprio and co-starring Affleck alongside the lovely Gemma Arterton amongst others.
Timberlake plays Richie Furst, a bright and brainy Princeton student who loses money that was supposed pay for his tuition by playing online poker on a website owned by gambling shark Ivan Block, played by Affleck, who runs his operation and fleeces his victims from afar on a remote island.
Furst travels to confront Block after realising he was cheated, but realising Furst’s potential, Block recruits him as his right-hand man and all goes well until the FBI get involved and threaten to spoil all of the shady and hardly legal goings on.
On first glance at least, it looks good to us.
Runner Runner is scheduled for general release in September
