The Last Stand shows Arnie make a last effort at being an action hero in a hick town on the South American border.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has given politics a rest for a while with a leading role return to the big screen. We did see him make baby steps back with the two Expendables movies, but now it seems he is ready for a full effort back to action in The Last Stand.
The movie sees him as Sheriff Ray Owens in small town Somerton Junction, on the Mexican border. Previously an LAPD narcotics officer, he was demoted to the Sheriff position after a drugs bust went wrong. However, on his day off in the sleepy town, he gets a call from Agent John Bannister (Forest Whitaker) telling him a convoy of baddies is racing toward the border and seem set to go through his town. The convoy includes a drug cartel boss (Eduardo Noriega) escaped from prison.
The problem is, Sheriff Owen’s staff is a bit useless and the dangerous convoy has a specially outfitted Corvette ZR1, a gang fending off the Feds as they speed towards the border at 250 mph, and they have a hostage for good measure.
Johnnie Knoxville also stars, as a newly appointed gun-loving Deputy Sheriff. Arnie looks quite at home playing an aging Sheriff, grumpy and p*ssed off with the cartel coming to mess with his town. Let’s hope he’s back for good.
Released on Friday, January 25.
