Ellen Page stars as an anarchist in an environmental group seeking revenge in The East
By Genna Patterson
Ellen Page is no stranger to a thriller. She starred in Hard Candy, where she lured a suspected child molester into a trap, and formed dreams inside dreams in Inception. Now she plays the hardcore anarchist, Izzy, of an environmental group set on finally getting revenge on the companies that have caused global destruction.
The trailer has Page’s voice-over tell us that these companies will be attacked, poisoned and hurt in the same ways that they carelessly do so to the world on a daily basis. Problems occur though, when Sarah (Brit Marling), an undercover police officer trying to infiltrate the group, makes a play for Izzy’s boyfriend, True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgård, the group’s leader.
The movie is directed by Zal Batmanglij, who also acted as co-writer along with actress Brit Marling. Batmanglij directed the thriller Sound of My Voice and the sci-fi flick The Recordist in the past. It is being produced by Ridley and Tony Scott’s company, Scott Free Productions.
Release date will be late 2013.
