Video: Estonian President is not at all happy after Dermot Murnaghan gets his name wrong live on Sky News

Awkward, very awkward

Conor Heneghan

Do your research Murnaghan!

The dangers of live broadcasting were exposed once again on Sky News earlier today, with one of the most well-known broadcasters in TV News falling victim this time around.

Dermot Murnaghan had lined up an interview with Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves to talk about Vladimir Putin’s actions in the Ukraine of late but it didn’t quite go to plan.

Why? Well because Murnaghan didn’t even get his name right.

Rather than pretend that the mistake never happened, Toomas wasn’t going to stand for it, taking off his glasses and earpiece and refusing to speak to the camera.

Murnaghan didn’t seem to be aware of his mistake and like any good pro would do, quickly shifted attention to the weather, which, of course can be used as a fall-back option at any time.

Would Michael D have acted like the Estonian President in a similar situation? We’d certainly like to think so.
