At last a full trailer for the futuristic After Earth, starring Will Smith and his son Jaden, has arrived. After Earth sees the father and son team on a mission gone wrong when their plane crash-lands onto Earth. Will Smith plays Cypher while Jaden plays Kitai.
Cypher is critically injured in the plane crash, so Kitai must embark on a mission alone, to signal for help, with his father tracking his progress. But there’s a reason that humanity left the planet a thousand years ago.
Earth is now home to evolved alien creatures that hunt and kill humans. Kitai is faced with these animals, including an incredibly dangerous beast that escaped the plane crash, in an effort to save both their lives.
Cypher and Kitai do not have the closest of relationships, so they must learn to trust each other if they are to succeed. The actors appear to be sporting some sort of English/Southern American hybrid accents – is this what we will sound like in the future?
This is M. Night Shyamalan’s tenth movie and hopefully he is back on track with his career after the not so great The Happening in 2008. The director shot to fame with intense thriller movies like Signs starring Mel Gibson and The Sixth Sense starring Bruce Willis.
After Earth is in cinemas on June 7th and looks set to be one of the big summer movies.
