“These are tickets for Kenny Live… I’m only joking.”
It probably doesn’t enjoy the same mythical status it once did, but there was a time before Sky and UPC boxes when the Late Late Show was essential viewing in households throughout Ireland.
To watch it was one thing, but to get a seat in the audience was a privilege granted only to a lucky few and everyone’s favourite dysfunctional Irish couple Bridget and Eamon revisited the halcyon days of the Gay Byrne era Late Late on Republic of Telly last night.
For rural folk like Bridget and Eamon, getting in the Late Late audience was a massive deal and the sketch involved everything from what road to Dublin they were going to take, dealing with family members who wanted a piece of the audience gifts and actually getting to ask a question of Gaybo himself.
Those were the days.
