Director Mark Riordan presents The Black, a short film that aims to give a voice to male victims of domestic abuse.
Riordan and producer Aaron O’Neill will premiere The Black at the prestigious Kerry Film Festival next month, with the hope of bringing it on to a number of other festivals in the coming months.
This is the trailer, showing a glimpse of the effects that domestic abuse can have on a family.
“It shows how a whole family can be affected by domestic abuse,” Mark tells JOE.
“We hope that it encourages men who are being abused, to speak out and reach for help. The Black asks the question, what is really going on inside? We never truly know what is going on inside another family’s home, or what someone else is really going through.

“The Black has a very deep meaning; it focuses on an area where someone is hiding something deep inside, this is also something that people on the outside can never see.
“We hope that it can help change the whole perspective of domestic abuse and give men a voice, because anyone can be affected by domestic violence and in today’s world, men should not feel isolated if they are victims.”
The Kerry Film Festival will take place in Killarney between 19 and 23 October.
