For most people, news about the Ebola virus and the Oscar Pistorius trial is not something to smile about. Not this guy though…

Dealing with serious news stories on live television can be a demanding gig. Any mistake, however minor, will be pounced upon immediately, great care has to be taken not to laugh or swear and one has to keep their decorum at all times.

Tone of voice is also an important thing to consider and the guy in charge of keeping things ticking over between programmes on the BBC over the weekend got his tone pretty badly mixed up when dealing with two of the main items dominating the news agenda at the moment; the spread of the Ebola virus and the ongoing trial of Oscar Pistorius in South Africa.

Have a listen…

It seems as if the presenter in question had adopted a default tone of voice more commonly associated with the ‘And finally’ segment of the news and was determined to use it regardless of the subject matter.

Unconfirmed reports suggest his tone was decidedly gloomy a little later on when previewing a segment on the world’s cutest puppies.
