WATCH: Dublin paramedic singing the Baywatch theme in an ambulance will brighten up your day

Conor Heneghan

“I’ll be ready.”

They stopped making it well over a decade ago, but because most Irish people growing up in the ‘90s were glued to it on Saturday afternoons, Baywatch has always had a special place in our hearts.

Apart from the Hoff (obviously) and some of the impossibly attractive lifeguards, the most recognisable element of the show was the theme tune, ‘I’m Always Here’, which still brings the house down in Irish nightclubs to this very day.

As soon as the opening bars are played it’s nigh on impossible not to sing along, which is exactly what paramedic Kevin Gill did when the song came on the radio while he was behind the wheel of an ambulance in south Dublin recently.

Unbeknownst to Kevin, his colleague Andy O’Toole was filming the entire performance, in which Kevin displayed plenty of enthusiasm and no little talent; his repetition of the main lines in the chorus is powerful to say the least.

Kevin, a Blanchardstown native, told JOE that he is a big fan of the Hoff and that his singing has been described as “a form of torture,” a statement that we couldn’t possibly agree with, based on this evidence at least.

If the Hollywood bigwigs are looking for someone to sing a new version of the theme for the Baywatch movie due out next year, they might just have found their man.

Cheers to Andy O’Toole for sending this our way. Got a story for JOE? Hit us up on Facebook or Twitter, send it to our WhatsApp number 087-4001102 or mail editorial@JOE.ie.
