WATCH: The trailer for HBO’s new André the Giant doc pays respect to one of wrestling’s biggest names

Dave Hanratty

Big shoes to fill, here.

Wrestling documentaries are all the rage right now, what with ESPN recently dedicating a 30 For 30 to the life and times of ‘The Nature Boy’ Ric Flair and now HBO getting in on the grapple action.

The subject of their forthcoming documentary is one of the genuine titans of the wrestling world; the late, great André the Giant.

Apart from his winning turn in The Princess Bride, the man born André René Roussimoff is best remembered for his colossal bout with Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania III in Michigan’s Pontiac Silverdome for the World Wrestling Federation Championship.

It was a simpler time for wrestling enthusiasts, with Hogan’s body slam of the Giant an unprecedented feat of strength that shocked the world…

Seriously, just listen to that crowd reaction.

Wrestling might not be quite so innocent anymore, but the HBO team appear to be doing their damnedest to pay tribute to an icon perfectly described in the trailer as “at once a real human, but at the same time, a mythological figure.”

‘Andre The Giant’ premieres in the spring of 2018.
