Starring a real-life boxer from Derry, this looks set to be a worldwide hit.
A new Irish drama entitled A Bend in the River is coming soon, directed by bestselling author Colin Broderick.
The movie tells the story of a writer who returns to Ireland, after spending twenty five years in New York, to confront the ghosts of his past.
Speaking about the film, Broderick said it is an attempt to come to terms with “a childhood tainted by the residue of war”.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, he said: “It is my love poem to Northern Ireland. The writer Matt Donnelly is the physical embodiment of the North of Ireland. He returns to confront the ghosts of his past: the violence, the confusion, the heartache.
“Like the place itself, he emerges from it all, reborn. Ultimately, A Bend in the River is a movie about the power of forgiveness.”
It stars John Duddy, who is an Irish actor and former professional boxer who fought from 2003 to 2010, as well as Kathy Kiera Clarke (Derry Girls) and John Connors (Love/Hate).
Acquired by Indie Rights from MK1 Studios, the film is due for a combined digital and theatrical release from March of 2021.
And with the recent success of Normal People, it’s obvious that there is a desire to take in Irish stories across the world.
