Azealia Banks has taken a pop at the Rose of Tralee winner, Kirsten Mate Maher

The rapper also called herself ‘The Queen of Ireland’ and called some Irish women ugly.

Even before she takes to the stage in Dublin’s Academy, Azealia Banks has her name in the headlines following her recent rant against Aer Lingus staff.

As stated previously, the ‘212’ singer blasted the airline via an Instagram post and then made comments about some “ugly Irish women”.

Banks’ career has consistently been mired by controversy and conflicts with fellow artists, and in a lengthy post, she said that she was “treated like a wild animal” by staff, prompting her to leave the flight.

Banks later states that: “So I get off the plane because I’m just like, sh*t, you know. I’ve worked too hard in my life to be cornered by some ugly Irish b**ch… Like these f**king ugly Irish women here.”

She then clarified her comments by saying: “I never said all Irish women were ugly. I said the women on the plane were ugly Irish women and I was speaking SPECIFICALLY about their spirits. Irish women are showing their eagerness to spew racism by twisting my words to say I called the whole country ugly. And no… I’m not apologising. Y’all keep showing your ugly hearts and minds, none of them DESERVE my apology.”

Aer Lingus have since released a statement which said: “Aer Lingus can confirm that two guests scheduled to fly on 10:55am flight from London Gatwick to Dublin (EI233) this morning disembarked themselves prior to departure.

“The guests in question got off the plane safely of their own accord, while all other guests remained on board. As they had luggage in the hold, the flight was delayed while that luggage was sourced.

“The flight departed Gatwick at 12:07 and landed in Dublin at 13:22. Aer Lingus has a strict no-tolerance policy towards disruptive guest behaviour. The safety and security of our guests and crew remains our first priority.”

With regards to Banks’ comments about Irish women, the rapper has been receiving some vitriolic abuse and after one user tagged Banks in a photo of current Rose of Tralee, Kirsten Mate Maher. The rapper wrote: “Nah you’re chopped sis” along with a laughing emoji.

Maher has since replied on Instagram.
