The Songs of Innocence Tour won’t be featuring any gigantic claws or lemons it seems…

After being bombarded with a swanky global launch and endless tweets about their decision to give the album away for “free”, one thing that has been commonly overlooked about U2’s new record is that it’s very good.

We’re excited to hear some of the new songs being played live and U2 fans will be pleased to hear that the band will be touring Songs of Innocence next year but in much smaller and intimate venues than previous tours.

If the lads follow through with this approach it would mark a fairly large scaling-back for the band, whose last major tour was the U2 360° Tour, which saw them play 110 shows in outdoor arenas and stadiums around the world in support of 2009’s album No Line On The Horizon.

We’re fairly certain that they aren’t strapped for cash anyway.

Maybe their new approach to live gigs was partly influenced by the fact that ‘The Claw’ was too big for Croke Park when they played here but it still didn’t get in the way of some very enjoyable gigs.

Of the plans to tour next year, Bono told Absolute Radio, “We’re going to be touring. We’re going to start next year. We’re going try and play The O2 [in London] and places like that, more indoors than outdoors this time, but we’ll see where it takes us.”

The Dubliner added,”It’s exciting. We’ll be coming your way and these songs are the songs that, I think, will play themselves.”

JOE has seen U2 perform in a variety of different venues and we would be very curious to hear them make a return to some smaller indoor arenas.

Then again they might just go and sell out 742 nights in Croke Park. Subject to licence of course.
