Dermot Kennedy has warned fans of the rise of impersonation scams led by sophisticated AI technology.

The Irish singer-songwriter took to social to alert fans about the new scam which uses his own voice to con people out of their money.

The Dubliner urged his fans to be “incredibly vigilant and exercise extreme caution, especially in any circumstances which involves being asked for money.”

He added: “If it’s not from either of the official channels it is definitely fake.”

He said that neither him nor his team would ever ‘ask for money or personal information’ from his online followers.

Last month, the 32-year-old revealed he was in Nashville making “some music that I’m so excited about”.

He recently announced that he will be playing in Sligo in October for a series of sold-out acoustic gigs for the Sligo Live festival
