Ed Sheeran has recorded Thinking Out Loud in Irish

Tony Cuddihy

Ed Sheeran has recorded Thinking Out Loud in Irish and it will premiere on Eoghan McDermott’s show on 2FM at 5.30pm this evening.

The track – an Irish language version of arguably Sheeran’s most recognisable song – is part of the upcoming CEOL 2016 le hEoghan McDermott CD, which also features songs as Gaeilge by the likes of Kodaline, The Coronas, The Riptide Movement and many more.

“Getting Ed Sheeran to record a bespoke version of one of the biggest songs in the world is incredible,” said McDermott.

“The fact he is singing as Gaeilge makes it all the better! Ed and the host of other incredible musicians on our CD shows that the use of the Irish language is being revolutionised at the moment, particularly in music. This album shows that anyone can speak as Gaeilge and that we should all give it a go.”

According to RTÉ, the album will go out to all schools and Third Level students from January 2016.

It can be downloaded from Conradh na Gaeilge’s website with a unique code and details on winning a code are available on Conradh na Gaeilge’s Facebook page.
