Scott Weiland, the former lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, has died at the age of 48.
“Scott Weiland, best known as the lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, passed away in his sleep while on a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota, with his band The Wildabouts,” a post on Weiland’s Facebook page reads.
“At this time we ask that the privacy of Scott’s family be respected.”
Weiland co-founded Stone Temple Pilots in the early 1990s with brothers Robert and Dean DeLeo.
The band was one of the most popular of the grunge era, with their albums Core and Purple reaching no.3 and no.1 in the United States respectively.
