If any of these 11 bands reunited then people would absolutely lose their fricking minds

Paul Moore

The wishlist for music fans.

Stone Roses fans are in for a treat this weekend as the legendary Manchester band return to Ireland to perform in front of a sold out crowd at Marlay Park. To many, the sight of Ian Brown and John Squire performing on the same stage – just like they did in 2012 at Phoenix Park – still feels like it belongs in the realms of fantasy, given their acrimonious split in 1996.

With this in mind, here are some other bands that the public would go crazy for, if they returned.

Led Zeppelin

Take my money because: They’re one of – if not THE – greatest rock and roll band of all time.

Chances: John Bonham’s son Jason filled in on drums when they reunited for a one-off concert at London’s O2 Arena during a benefit gig for the deceased music executive Ahmet Ertegün’s charity. A reunion isn’t impossible but Robert Plant seems opposed to the idea.

Rage Against the Machine

Take my money because: One of the most intense and brilliant live bands that you’ll ever experience.

Chances: Brad Wilk, Tom Morello and Tim C are all preoccupied with their new supergroup, Prophets of Rage , but they have stated that there’s an invite for Zach de La Rocha to join. It might not be RATM but it could be a step in the right direction.

Talking Heads

Take my money because: Very few bands have shaped the course of alternative music in the way that David Byrne’s merry band of geniuses have.

Chances: There were recent rumours of a reunion but guitarist Jerry Harrison and drummer Chris Frantz quickly put them to bed.

The Kinks

Take my money because: Ray Davies remains one of the greatest living songwriters and their back catelogue is absolutely stunning.

Chances: The two brothers have buried the hatchet and performed recently so this one seems like it’s likely to happen at some point.

The Fugees

Take my money because: We’d happily pay just to hear The Score performed in its entirety.

Chances: Wyclef Jean has stressed that he has no bad blood with Lauryn Hill and Pras, but it doesn’t look likely to happen.

Destiny’s Child

Take my money because: Look at the amount of people that will be in Croke Park to see Beyonce this weekend. She’s a gifted performer and the band have some brilliant tunes.

Chances: They briefly reunited during the 2013 Superbowl but with Beyonce’s solo career showing no signs of slowing down, it’s highly unlikely that she’ll be sharing the stage again with Kelly and Michelle in the near future.

REM

Take my money because: It’s very likely that some people won’t appreciate just how amazing this band were until they called it a day.

Chances: Being that they only split up in 2011, it was amicable so we won’t rule anything out.

The Spice Girls

Take my money because: Pop music appeals to the masses and just like any potential Westlife, Nsync or Backstreet Boys reunion, you know that this would sell-out instantly.

Chances: Geri, Emma, and Mel B have created their own new band and there’s a possibility that Victoria and Mel C will join.

The Smiths

Take my money because: There’s a light that never goes out for Moz and Marr.

Chances: This tune perfectly sums all those rumours, conjecture and talk.

Oasis

Take my money because: It all started with this adrenaline-pumping riff and it still sends goosebumps down our spines. As they say, the rest is history….

Chances: Who the hell knows! This being said, things are a bit ‘frosty’ between Liam and Noel at the minute.

ABBA

Take my money because: It’s hard to argue against the belief that they’re the biggest pop band of all time. ABBA are a group whose reach, influence and impact will continue to be felt for generations to come.

Chances: Rumours were circulating that a Glastonbury slot was on the cards but it didn’t come to fruition. If the band ever got together then we’ve no doubt that every single ticket of a reunion tour would sell in record time.

There are so many other bands that come to mind like The Jam, Queen, Pink Floyd etc. Let us know if you’ve got any other suggestions.
