A new take on a classic pop hit.
Rihanna has been around a long time now, and there are still plenty of music fans who’ll tell you that she hasn’t managed to approach the pop majesty of Umbrella since its release in 2007.
The song is an understated, infectious classic of the genre – but best of all, its simple enough that it can be re-invented in myriad, magical ways.
That’s exactly what Newfoundland have done. Composed of members from Wateford, Kilkenny and Tipperary, the trad band have released their rendition of Umbrella with a trad twist, and it is pure quality. All due respect to Riri, this song was made to be sung in an Irish accent and accompanied by an accordion.
