Sick and tired of what’s been churned out on Irish radio waves these days? Well there’s a new radio station being set up that might interest you…
This weekend sees the launch of 8Radio.com, a brand new multi-format music radio station playing a vast range of music from brand new synth pop to electronica to new wave and vintage post-punk, linked together by knowledgeable and engaging presenters.
Launching this Friday night at Midnight, 8Radio.com will be brought to listeners through a variety of platforms, including live Internet streaming, Smartphone Applications, and a temporary FM license.
From March 30th 8Radio.com will be broadcast live in Dublin, Cork and Limerick and will run every Saturday and Sunday until July 7th 2013. By broadcasting on FM, 8Radio.com believes there is an opportunity to strengthen its audience and drive traffic towards its online presence.
Speaking in advance of 8Radio.com’s launch Simon Maher, the master and commander behind the whole thing, said “Online radio is growing at a staggering rate and many Irish radio audiences are beginning to feel disenfranchised by what’s currently available to them.
“For the last year I’ve been asking people what they enjoy listening to and so many people have told me they’ve deserted traditional radio altogether, which is a great shame. People still love music though so they have replaced their terrestrial radio listening with online radio/Spotify/Deezer and their own playlists, which are by their nature a bit less structured than traditional radio.
“At 8Radio.com we want to put the excitement back into radio. So, when we started putting the music for 8Radio.com together, we have gone for a much more random selection. Think Tom Waits followed by Passion Pit followed by The Blades at lunchtime!”
8Radio.com will broadcast live on FM for 15 Weekends from March 30th to July 7th. FM frequencies are 94.3FM in Dublin, 105.5FM in Limerick and 106.7FM in Cork. Check out the new website here.
