Introducing EL VY…
Though it should be noted that the man behind EL VY needs no introduction whatsoever.
EL VY is the new project of Matt Berninger, lead singer of The National. Berninger has teamed up with Brent Knopf (of Ramona Falls and, formerly, Menomena) to record an album under the name EL VY (pronounced, according to a press release, like the plural or Elvis).
Return to the Moon is the first track off their eponymous debut album, and it perfectly fuses Berninger’s low drawl and desperately sad lyrics with a more summery, electronic fuzz of guitars and a disco beat.
Tickets for EL VY’s gig in Whelan’s went on sale yesterday and sold out in one minute, which meant the band had to switch venues to Vicar St. Going by this song, the hype is well-earned. If you haven’t listened yet, you’re already late to the party.
