Which one of these will be voted the best album of the year…

The twelves nominees for the 2014 Mercury Music Prize have been announced this evening the the list is, as always, an eclectic mix of some of the best albums to infiltrate our ears over the past few months.

The Mercury Prize is one of the most prestigious awards in music and it’s been previously won by the likes of Pulp, PJ Harvey, Dizzee Rascal, Arctic Monkeys, The xx and James Blake who picked up the gong last year.

East India Youth – Total Strife Forever
Bombay Bicycle Club – Total Strife Forever
Anna Calvi – One Breath
Nick Mulvey – First Mind
Go Go Penguin – v2.0
Jungle – Jungle
Damon Albarn – Everyday Robots
Polar Bear – In Each and Every One
Kate Tempest – Everybody Down
Royal Blood – Royal Blood

Former Blur frontman Damon Albarn and FKA twigs are the bookies’ favourites to win but the music heads in JOE would love to see Jungle, FKA twigs, Nick Mulvey or Royal Blood do the business. Time will tell.

The final winner will be announce at London Roundhouse on 29th October.
