The actress swiftly tweeted a correction.
Following the sad news that George Michael passed away aged just 53, there have been plenty of tributes paid from his fans and those that knew him.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar attempted to join in the tributes on Twitter, but somewhat unfortunately confused George Michael with fellow pop star Boy George.
Quoting one of the Culture Club singer’s hits “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me”, she hoped Boy George would ‘rest in peace’. The mistake was retweeted hundreds of times before fans pointed it out; the tweet was then swiftly deleted.
Gellar then tweeted a correction.
Just as sad when you get the correct information- #ripGeorgeMichael thank you to everyone who corrected me- it's still so sad
