Spotify has revealed the Most Streamed Artist of 2014…

Drumroll please...

Looks like Ed Sheeran can be smiling about much more than just playing a few tunes at the Victoria’s Secrets fashion show this week…

Just look at the happy head on him there, standing next to Ariana Grande. We’re totally not jealous…

So why can Ed be so damn happy this week? Well, it’s all because he has been crowned the most streamed artist of 2014, with the UK singer songwriter being listened to more than 860 million times across the globe this year on Spotify.

Ed also holds the title for the most streamed album for ‘x’ which was released in June to rave reviews, and which had over 430 million streams from the album by fans.

Spotify also revealed today that October 10 was officially the loudest day of the year, with more heavy rock and metal played than any other day.

On the flip side, May 30 was the ‘happiest day’, with the biggest number of playlists titled ‘happy’ being streamed on repeat. We can all thank Pharrell Williams for that one.

Surprisingly, Ed didn’t feature in the top ten highest grossing songs on Spotify, which we featured here on the site recently. Looks like Marge Simpson was right when she said ‘slow and steady wins the race’…
