Hozier’s trophy cabinet seems to be growing by the week because the Wicklow singer has just won the Ivor Novello award for Best song musically and lyrically fr his smash-hit ‘Take Me To Church’.

Mr Byrne wasn’t the only Irishman celebrating as DJ and frequent film composer was also on the podium accepting an award for his work on the soundtrack for ’71.

Elsewhere there were wins for Clean Bandit feat. Jess Glynne’s Rather Be (Best Contemporary Song, Most Performed Work); Bombay Bicycle Club’s So Long, See You Tomorrow (Album) and Natalie Holt and Martin Phipps’ The Honourable Woman (Best TV Soundtrack).
