This is going to be great…
Seasick Steve (Steven Wold) hit the mainstream music scene about a decade ago and we’ve loved him ever since.
From bluesy folk to psychedelic surf, Steve has certainly carved a unique path.
Thankfully, this path is due to bring him to Sea Sessions in Donegal this coming June.
We first heard Seasick Steve on Jools Holland’s annual New Year’s Eve Hootenanny in 2006.
He played songs from his debut solo album ‘Dog House Music’ and stole the show.
That was the start of something great. In 2007, Seasick Steve won the MOJO award for best breakthrough artist.
The hard-working singer/songwriter also played more UK festivals than any other artist that year.
Steve’s next album ‘I Started Out with Nothin and I Still Got Most of It Left’ was released to critical acclaim in September 2008.
Wold reckons the success from his first two albums largely comes from a weather beaten 3-string guitar, or “The Trance Wonder”, as he calls it.
In 2009, Steve released ‘Man From Another Time’ which cemented his place as one of the world’s best blues acts. Songs such as The Banjo Song are ranked up there with his best.
‘You Can’t Teach an Old Dog New Tricks’ was Steve’s next album. It was released in 2011 on the back of Seasick Steve’s 2nd Brit Award nomination for Best International Male.
Steve’s follow-up ‘Hubcap Music’ produced many more excellent tunes, with ‘The Way I Do’ and ‘Home’ particular highlights.
If you go to Sea Sessions, you’re likely to get a mixture of all of these great records, as well a few tracks off his new album Sonic Soul Surfer.
Steve has gone full beach-bum for his new record and it’s great.
So there you have it, another unmissable gig of the summer – Seasick Steve at Sea Sessions.
Sea Sessions tickets are available from all Ticketmaster outlets nationwide,www.ticketmaster.ie and www.seasessions.com/
