Unmissable gigs of 2015: The Riptide Movement

Lucan's finest

JOE

From dingy Dublin bars, to gold selling albums.

The Riptide Movement are just one of the many amazing bands set to play this year’s Sea Sessions in Bundoran.

It hasn’t always been so easy for the men from Lucan. When vocalist and guitarist Mal Tuohy joined forces with guitarist John Dalton, bassist and harmonica player Ger Mc Garry and drummer Gar Byrne back in 2006, such success was only a pipe dream.

But every journey starts with its first step. For The Riptide Movement, this was to hop over the Irish Sea and move to London.

The Breakthrough

The year was 2009 and the band were slowly, but surely gaining a fanbase. Their first EP ‘What About The Tip Jars?’ was gaining attention and excitement was beginning to build.

The next two years saw the band touring extensively around Europe. They were becoming well-known for their energetic live performances and were gradually carving a path through the Irish and European music circuit.

Their first single Hot Tramp was released in September of 2010 and reached twenty seven in the Irish Singles Chart.

Difficult second album

The next step was that difficult second album, but they certainly stepped up to the plate with ‘Keep On Keepin’ On.’ It reached number 6 in the Irish Album charts and they were beginning to look and sound like stars.

Number 1 band

The success from that second album saw the band in hot demand. So much so, they signed for Universal Music in early 2014 ahead of the release date of their third album Getting Through. The album was released in April and went straight to number 1 in the Irish album charts.

The big hit from the album was the single All Works Out. The video for this tune featured Amy Huberman and the song was also used for a massive Discover Ireland campaign.

They also joined us for a great performance as part of the Sunday Sessions.

So there you have it, another unmissable gig of the summer – The Riptide Movement at Sea Sessions. Catch them before they’re filling out stadiums worldwide.

Sea Sessions tickets are available from all Ticketmaster outlets nationwide,www.ticketmaster.ie andwww.seasessions.com/
