Is there no end to the reach and appeal of Hozier’s masterpiece?
Hozier must have known he was onto a good thing when he first recorded ‘Take Me to Church’ but we doubt he could have even dreamt what it’s gone on to achieve.
Having deservedly earned mass airplay at home and abroad, it was then featured in a Beats by Dre ad starring none other than LeBron James.
Then, after being nominated for a Grammy award, the Wicklow native got the chance to perform it live at the ceremony itself, with the great Annie Lennox on hand to provide vocal support.
Now, the song has been given a new video by renowned photographer and director David LaChapelle, who has directed videos for the likes of Elton John, Florence and the Machine, Amy Winehouse and Britney Spears in the past.
The video features well-known ballet dancer Sergei Polunin and takes place entirely in one room for the duration of the song.
It might be a little bit arty for some people’s tastes, but it’s pretty powerful stuff and another fitting tribute to one of the most influential songs for many a year.
The man himself certainly approves.
Absolutely blown away by this gorgeous piece of work from David LaChapelle and Sergei Polunin. No words. Thank you! http://t.co/ey3GBv2N0Q
