Donald Glover is at the very top of his game.
In 2017 he picked up two Emmys for directing and acting in his own show Atlanta. In 2018 he picked up a Grammy for his massive hit ‘Redbone.’
In the coming months, Glover will play Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story, and voice Simba in the live-action Lion King remake.
At times it seems as though there is quite literally nothing he cannot do.
The music video for his new song, ‘This Is America,’ will do nothing but fan those flames. The surreal, apocalyptic, shocking video perfectly captures the mood shift in Glover’s music and lyrics throughout the song — which is half-celebratory party anthem, half-barked aggressive verses that mimics, and maybe even satirises, popular modern rappers like 21 Savage.
The video shows Glover dancing like a maniac with his shirt off and wielding guns, burning rubble in the background and a lot of empty cars. In short it looks and sounds a lot like the end of the world. Give it a listen and you won’t regret it.
